What is Jelqing?

Jelqing is a technique that claims to increase penis size. It has raised some controversy amongst men who have tried it and medical professionals with disagreeing accounts of its effectiveness.

Jelqing is a manual penile exercise technique that involves repeatedly pulling or stretching the flaccid penis in an attempt to increase its length or girth over time.

How Does Jelqing Work?

Jelqing has been said to work by exerting pressure on the tissues of the penis. This stimulates blood flow, which purportedly increases its size over time.

The technique involves gripping the base of the semi-erect penis with the thumb and index finger and slowly stroking upwards towards the glans, applying a gentle but firm pressure.

Once you reach the end of your penis, move your thumb and finger back to the base of your penis and repeat the movement.

Because jelqing may be painful, with reports of it causing bruising and/or microtears, men have come up with some ways to minimize these side effects.

  • Warm up your penis using a compress or warm bath

  • Apply lubricant to your penis to reduce friction

  • Do not jelq with a fully erect penis

  • Stop jelqing if you experience any discomfort

Is Jelqing Effective?

While there are anecdotal reports of successful jelqing results, medical professionals have not backed this technique as an official way to increase penis size. There is no research that suggests this is an effective way to enhance your penis.

Is Jelqing Safe?

The safety and efficacy of jelqing are often discussed in the same breath. Similarly to the professional stance of its effectiveness, health experts do not recommend jelqing as a safe way to enhance your penis.

With jelqing, the repetitive pulling can cause damage to the tissues and can create nerve damage within the pelvis or the penis that can result in tissue damage and erectile dysfunction

Are There Any Other Ways to Increase Penis Size?

While there are surgical options for achieving a longer or thicker penis, there are severe complications that can also lead to loss feeling or erectile dysfunction.

A more popular method for temporary penis enlargement is the vacuum pump. To use it, insert the penis into the empty cylinder and form a seal at the base of your penis. Then the vacuum pump device (either battery- or hand-operated) will increase the blood flow to your penis, leading to an erection.

Some men have opted for injections for penis enhancement. These substances will normally last around six months before dissolving. The risks of these injections are a lumpy effect on the penis if not injected in the correct places.

Another temporary solution for penis enlargement is medication. PDE5 inhibitors such as Viagra and Cialis can act as penis augmenters as they bring blood to the penis to provide a firm erection. For men who typically cannot achieve a strong erection, these medications can help the penis enlarge for the duration the medications remain in the body.
