Why is Morning Sex Best?

Given that you’re already in bed, morning sex is certainly convenient. But that’s just one reason it’s so amazing.

Men experience their highest amount of testosterone upon waking up. Testosterone heightens sex drive and allows men to experience more pleasure during sex.

Additionally, sex releases oxytocin into your brain, so having morning sex can boost your mood and help you start your day on a positive note.

What Does it Mean if You Struggle with Erections in the Morning?

It’s common for a man to wake up with an erection. “Morning wood” is caused by nocturnal penile tumescence.

During a typical eight-hour sleep cycle, a healthy man can experience three to five erections. These erections will vary in length but usually last for 20 minutes or more.

If you are not experiencing erections during the night or in the morning, you may be experiencing erectile dysfunction.

What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Typically, erections occur when mental and physical stimuli create arousal.

The brain releases chemicals and neurotransmitters that dilate your blood vessels, causing more blood to flow into your penis, and less blood to flow out of it.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) occurs when problems involving the brain, hormones, emotions, nerves, muscles, or blood vessels hinder this process.and a man has difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection sufficient for satisfying sexual activity.

What Causes Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction can be triggered by a variety of health problems, the most common being circulatory or cardiovascular issues. Several psychological conditions can cause erectile difficulties as well.

The most common causes of erectile dysfunction include:

  • High blood pressure

  • Smoking

  • Clogged arteries

  • Stress

  • Diabetes

  • Anxiety

  • High cholesterol

  • Depression

  • Nerve disorders

  • Injury to the spine or pelvic area

  • Low self-esteem

  • Enlarged prostate

  • Alcohol or drug abuse

  • Obesity

How Can You Treat Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction can make it challenging to have sex.

To restore your erectile abilities, you must first identify the underlying cause of your ED.

Then, you may need to adopt certain lifestyle changes, use sexual devices, or take medication to reduce your symptoms.

Oral medications

Certain oral medications can be highly effective for treating ED.

Viagra®, Cialis®, or Levitra (and generic equivalents) have been used for over 20 years and have helped millions of men achieve erections.

These drugs are phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. They block the functions of certain blood vessel wall enzymes. This blockage keeps your blood vessels dilated, allowing for consistent blood flow to the penis, and thus an erection.

These medications will not provide a permanent cure for erectile dysfunction, and their effects will end once the drug leaves your system.

How quickly the drugs work and how long they are in effect varies depending on dosage and metabolism.

Common side effects include headache, indigestion, abdominal cramps, back pain, flushing in the face and body, and changes to your vision. These side effects should subside once the drug leaves your body.

PDE5 inhibitors are considered safe for men who haven’t had a stroke or heart attack within the last six months. If you are currently taking medications for high blood pressure or blood thinners (such as nitrates or alpha-blockers) you shouldn’t take any PDE5 inhibitors. The combination could cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Vacuum pump

If your doctor doesn’t recommend PDE5 inhibitors, you may want to try using a vacuum pump device.

Unlike PDE5 inhibitors – which require arousal and stimulation – vacuum pumps use physical suction to create erections.

Vacuum pumps are often used with cock rings. Also known as constriction bands and tension rings, cock rings are worn around the penis, usually at the base.

After you have achieved an erection, using a cock ring can help trap the blood in your penis, and help you stay hard.

A cock ring should be tight enough to sustain your erection without cutting off circulation or causing numbness.

Never wear a cock ring for more than half an hour to avoid serious health problems.

Penile implants

More severe cases of ED may require surgery to restore sexual function. These procedures are used as a last resort after all other options have failed.

There are two different types of penile implant surgeries available:

  • The cheaper and simpler operation is the semi-rigid penile implant. This surgery will install two silicone rods inside the penis and create a semi-permanent erection. You can hide your erection by bending the rods downward.

  • The inflatable implant is a more expensive and complex surgery. A surgeon inserts two bladders along the sides of your penis, a pump in your scrotum, and a reservoir in your lower abdomen. Your penis can become erect simply when you squeeze the pump. This surgery may require follow-up surgeries to repair the implant over time.
