The internet has changed the way that society operates.
An internet connection gives you the opportunity to work from home, manage your finances, do your shopping, and even find love. It’s also helped to replace visits to the doctor.
The official term for that last one is telehealth and it's seen stead growth and adoption in recent years. It’s grown in popularity especially for men looking to be discreet about erectile dysfunction.
Getting a prescription for sildenafil (Viagra®) has never been easier, but it’s important to find the right online source.

What Is Teleheatlh?
Sometimes referred to as telemedicine, telehealth allows a doctor to virtually connect with patients using a device that has access to the internet, or simply remotely by phone, or even by message.
The trend has been steadily growing over the years but exploded in popularity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Nearly 88 percent of Americans want to keep their telehealth options even after the pandemic has passed.
These numbers make sense when you consider the benefits of using telehealth. Instead of having to schedule an appointment with a doctor that might be days or weeks in the future, you can now immediately or nearly immediately connect with a licensed professional from the comfort of your own home.
It's not only more convenient, but it can save you time, money, and make it easier to discuss sensitive topics like erectile dysfunction.
What Is Erectile Dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction is when a man experiences difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection that's firm enough for sex. Although it’s totally normal to experience these difficulties from time to time, if they occur frequently it could be a sign of an underlying physical or psychological condition.
The most common physical conditions that cause erectile dysfunction involve your circulatory system. For example, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure all have a strong association with erectile dysfunction.
Your mental health can also play a factor in erectile dysfunction — stress, anxiety, and depression are all linked to various sexual issues including erection difficulties.
There are several options when it comes to treating erectile dysfunction with medication, but the most popular choice is sildenafil (Viagra).
What Is Sildenafil?
Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra. Since exclusive patents expired around 2017, generic sildenafil has become widely available as a cheaper alternative to branded Viagra. Viagra cost as much as $100 per pill when it was first introduced in the late '90s, and generic versions can cost as little as $2 per pill. Regardless of whether it’s the brand name version or the generic, sildenafil works the same way.
Sildenafil belongs to a drug class known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Sildenafil is joined in this class by tadalafil (Cialis®), vardenafil (Levitra®), and avanafil (Stendra®).
Each of these drugs manage erectile dysfunction in the same way: by increasing blood flow to your penis and making it easier to maintain an erection.
Although these drugs are generally regarded as safe and effective for most men, a few side effects might occur. These minor side effects are not particularly severe and should dissipate when the drug exits your system. According to a four-year study on sildenafil, the most common side effects are headaches (28%), flushing (22%), dizziness (9%), and upset stomach (6%).
Another issue worth noting is the potential danger of mixing any of the erectile dysfunction medications with blood-thinning drugs. Specifically, nitrates can have a potentially lethal effect on blood pressure when combined with sildenafil or PDE5 inhibitors. Anti-coagulants like warfarin can also be dangerous when used in conjunction with sildenafil.
When mixed, blood thinners and PDE5 inhibitors can cause a dangerous drop in your blood pressure that usually requires emergency medical attention.
As a result of these side effects and potential interactions with other drugs, you need a doctor's prescription to legally purchase sildenafil.
How To Get a Prescription For Sildenafil
Your personal doctor has most likely written tons of prescriptions for sildenafil. If you're experiencing erectile dysfunction, talking with your doctor or a urologist can be an easy way to get a prescription.
If you prefer to be discreet and would rather not have a face-to-face conversation about your sex life, however, you may want to use a telehealth option.
There are lots of options out there, and here are a few of the benefits you’ll find right here at Rex MD.
Rex MD is a member of the American Telehealth Association and offers consultations with licensed doctors, personalized treatment plans, unlimited follow-ups, and even free 2-day shipping with any purchase.
How Does the Process Work?
The Rex MD process is simple, and if approved you'll be on your way to getting your medication quickly.
- Answer some questions. We’ll need some basic information before you get started, including some background on your medical history, your symptoms, and any potentially conflicting conditions you have. You'll need to upload a government-issued ID along with a picture of yourself (a selfie) to verify your identity.
- Get connected with a doctor. You will be connected to a licensed medical professional to discuss potential treatments for your symptoms and any concerns the doctor might have. Your assigned physician may need to schedule a full virtual visit if more information is required. In this event, you would consult over the phone or through a virtual meeting on your computer or phone to discuss any issues.
- Watch for the delivery. If your assigned doctor determines that a prescription for sildenafil is right for your symptoms, a prescription will be written and your medication will be shipped. Rex MD's packaging is discreet and will be at your door in no time.
Your membership also comes with free and unlimited follow-ups. If you have issues or questions about your prescription, you can quickly get in contact with your assigned clinician and consult with them through the Rex MD Patient Portal. It doesn’t get much easier!
